Sea Otters spend most of their time in the water. In some cases the sea otter will come ashore to sleep or rest.  When they swim they have webbed feet to help propel them and their ears and noses close automatically. They keep their fur clean because that is what keeps them warm in the water. The special undercoat of fur is thick. They have no fat like other mammals to keep them warm. When they dive they get food and rocks to smash open shells on their belly. Females keep pups there too.
